About the Work

When we slow down and observe the world around us, patterns become apparent. Creation is expansive- there are worlds within worlds that remain unseen until we spend time with them. The marquise shape of a simple seed found in nature may be echoed in the shape of a seashell, and then again in the laceration on a person’s body. Watching the visual forms of a galaxy being born resemble the shapes one sees as a mother gives birth. The sprouting of a seed, fertilization of an egg, and landing of a space ship all contain patterns that echo one another. Through close looking, worlds expand and one thing begins to appear within other things. Upon contemplating these patterns it is apparent that all things are whispering secrets of an unseen, yet unifying force... a creator or a source.

In following the patterns of creation, I have been creating drawings that reflect the fractal nature of the universe in a way that simplifies it to its most minimal essence. The work reduces visual forms to their basic and most foundational components while retaining the fundamental element of beauty. Close attention is paid to formal qualities such as proportion, symmetry, and balance. Each subject is meticulously aligned and spaced within the composition, creating a sense of harmony and equilibrium. Light and shadow are then employed to construct an image that evokes the senses. All of these techniques are ultimately used to entice and draw viewers into the artwork, which harkens the beauty that life can be found everywhere and in all things.
